Mechanical Design Engineer - Sustaining

Adams Rite is a recognized leader in commercial architectural hardware with a 100+ yr history in the LA area and is ISO 9001:2000 certified. Adams Rite produces door system hardware products for the commercial construction industry. Adams Rite is part of an ASSA ABLOY Group company.

Our ideal candidate has 3+ yrs related product design & development experience with mechanical & electro-mechanical devices. Industry design engineering experience with architectural door hardware, such as exit devices, locks & latches, electric strikes & trim or similar mechanisms is preferable. Further developmental experience with mechanism design & integration of solenoids, miniature electric motors, hall effects, sensors, switches & other electronic components integration would be a plus. A high level of manufacturing process & tooling knowledge including the ability to provide accurate preliminary estimates for projects that would include tooling, parts, design and manufacturing labor is required. Experience & detailed knowledge of ANSI/BHMA, UL, NFPA, NEC, IBC, UBC, ISO, etc… standards & building code requirements is preferable.

The position will require accountability for modifying and improving existing product designs, following internal specifications and requirements, from request through production release. Will also be responsible, in a design engineering role, for developing solid models & layouts, selecting appropriate materials & processes, performing FEA analysis, generating production drawings and other related project management tasks. Will perform other tasks including development & coordination of prototypes, test plans, product validation testing, supplier interface, and coordination of agency test & listing documentation issues, etc.

The right candidate is a highly motivated, self-starter who will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously & is experienced in integration of the DFMEA process in the design workflow. Must also be SolidWorks and Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project, etc. proficient. Ability & willingness to work in a collaborative, team environment is a must.
