Job Title: Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technician I

Reports to: Director of Research and Development

Summary: Aids in the development and design of electromechanical systems.  Assembles and tests components, prototypes, electrical/electronic systems and test equipment.  

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Required to provide general technician support for the benefit of our electrical engineering staff; primarily including the fabrication of electrical components to be used in new product development. 

Assemble electronic prototypes & cable harnesses according meeting product specifications and industry quality guidelines.

Work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to develop electromechanical products and may be required to formally report product status and testing results.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

  • A minimum of three or more years of electronics assembly as well as strong technical skills which allow the applicant to apply the principles of electronics. 
  • Electronic trouble shooting and problem solving skills are a must with experience in board level evaluation and repair. Proficiency with equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, etc needed.  Required to have basic skill using electrical fabrication hand tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, etc.
  • Ability to solder through-hole and fine pitch (50 mil) surface mount components is preferred.   IPC certification or willingness to learn considered a plus.
  • Requires solid experience in soldering, troubleshooting and repairing printed circuit boards and constructing cable harnesses.
  • Must have the ability set up and operate test equipment to evaluate the performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under test. Ability to record results and present them in a clear and concise report needed. 

Education and/or Experience A minimum of 3 or more years of related experience preferred.

Language Ability Ability to effectively present information to co-workers and management. 

Computer Skills Must have working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email.  Proficiency in ECAD software is not required, but considered a plus.  Physical DemandsThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the shop environment is usually loud and appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn at all times.
