Can the RITE Touch be reverse handed?

The RITE Touch ships from the factory in left hand configuration. It can be re-handed for right hand door configuration using a few simple steps: 

  1. Remove the screws to disassemble the front body
  2. Separate the U-frame
  3. Rotate and reposition the U-frame
  4. Reassemble the front body
I forgot my user code for the RITE Touch. How do I restore my lock to factory default settings?

The RITE Touch can not be restored to factory default settings. Please take steps to ensure that the user code is not lost or forgotten and the master code is kept secure as well. 

How do I add or delete individual cards for the RITE Touch?

All active cards must be presented to either add or delete individual cards. This requires gathering all credentials in circulation to make a change. 

Does Adams Rite offer an ADA acceptable lever to work the MS1850 series deadbolts?

The 4550 lever handle is an accessible handle that operates the MS1850 series deadbolts. A downward 90º motion unlocks the deadbolt and an upward 90º turn locks the unit from the inside. The lever can be installed in place of an existing key cylinder or thumbturn on the inside of the door.

What is the difference between the MS1850S & the MS1850A?

The difference between the MS1850S & the MS1850A lies within the composition of the projected bolt. The MS1850S utilizes an eight ply laminated stainless steel bolt whereas the MS1850A consists of an eight ply zinc plated steel bolt. Functionally and dimensionally the two deadlocks are exactly the same. In addition, both versions meet ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 standards. 

Electric Strikes

The electric strike does not operate properly when the door is closed. What should I do?

Open the door and re-engergize the electric strike. If the electric strike operates properly with the door held open, the lockset may be preloading or binding the keeper of the electric strike. Preload is any pressure applied to the keeper of the electric strike that causes it to bind. The horizontal relationship between the lockset and the electric strike will have to be adjusted to eliminate the binding between the bolt of the lock and the electric strike keeper. 

I currently have an MS1850S deadbolt installed on a single aluminum door & frame. The customer is requesting that an electric strike be tied into an access control system. What hardware is needed?

The first step would be to replace the MS1850S with a 4900 deadlatch of the same backset. The 4900 will fit into the existing preparation for the MS1850S deadbolt without any modification. The 7130 electric strike will be required to cover the strike opening or cutout in the frame. A 4900 paddle or any style of Adams Rite latch handle will be needed for the interior side of the door. The existing mortise cylinder on the exterior of the door can be used on the 4900 deadlatch without any changes. Other components that will be required will include some type of control switch (ex. Pushbutton, keypad, or card reader) and power source (transformer and possibly rectifier) for the strike. 

I currently have a 7100 series electric strike installed, but is not releasing properly. When the unit is taken out of the jamb and held upside down it seems to function normally. Are 7100 series electric strikes handed or could there be another problem?

All 7100 series electric strikes are non-handed. If an electric strike functions correctly in one hand and not the other, it is generally a sign that the strike is being underpowered. An example would be an electric strike being rated at 24VDC, but the power being supplied is 24VAC. The strike will probably operate in one hand and not the other simply because gravity is helping the plunger and blocking arm fall to the unlocked position. The first step would be to verify what voltage the strike is rated for. The solenoid data should be labeled on the side of the strike for easy reference. Make sure the rated voltage of the power source is within ±10% of the rated voltage for the solenoid. An incorrect voltage source can and will cause problems with the strike or the entire system. 

Exit Devices

Does the new Pullman (P8800/P8700) replace the legacy Starwheel model (8800, 8700/3700)?

No. The Pullman is an addition to the Starwheel model. Both will continue to be offered and each have their own unique applications.

Can you retrofit existing openings with a P8800/P8700 Pullman Rim Exit Device?

The 8800 Interlocking / Starwheel and the new P8800 Pullman Rim Exits require different door preps.

  • However, if a P8800 is retrofitted over a previously installed 8800 Starwheel, the holes from the Starwheel install will no longer be visible.

The new P8800 has different cylinder/trim prep, different mounting prep, different strike prep compared to 8800 device.

The P8800 strike can cover the 8800 strike prep holes when retrofitted

Is there a fire rated version of the P8700 Pullman Rim Exit Device?

No, there is no fire rated version available at this time

I currently have an 8600 concealed vertical rod (CVR) exit device with the standard hex head dogging installed on a narrow stile aluminum door. Can you add cylinder dogging without replacing the entire device?

Yes, cylinder dogging can be added to any non-electrified 8000 series device without replacing the entire panic bar. The only portion that will have to be replaced is the pushbar. The preparation for cylinder dogging on the pushbar is done at the factory. A standard mortise cylinder with a MS® cam is sold separately. To order a new pushbar with cylinder dogging, order as if you are ordering a complete device and replace the dash with a “C” and add a “ – PB” following the door opening width. 

Ex: 8611C36 – PB = Pushbar only with cylinder dogging 628 finish – 36” Door opening 

Can an 8650-escutcheon pad be used to mount cylinders to any exit devices other than the Concealed Vertical Rod Devices?

The 8650 is designed for use only with the Concealed Vertical Rod (CVR) exit devices. The CVR devices require a standard mortise cylinder with an MS® cam for outside key operation. To mount the mortise cylinder an 8650 escutcheon pad is required. Mortise type devices allow the mortise cylinder to be threaded into the latch case and secured with a set screw, therefore a mounting pad is not required. Rim and Surface Vertical Rod devices require a rim cylinder. Rim cylinders are supplied with two mounting screws that attach the cylinder directly to the door so a mounting pad is not required. Cylinder guards can be used for added security if necessary.
